About the Tangaliya Edit: A collection that brings the beautiful craft of Tangaliya weaving to the Ela India store. Tangaliya or Daana weaving is a 700 year old weaving technique, primarily practiced by the Dangasia community in Gujarat, which involves an intricate process of twisting extra weft during the weaving process, leading to the formation of beads on the surface. This is an intensely labour intensive process and as the master weaver shared with us, a Tangaliya saree can take anywhere from 15 days to a month to finish, depending on the complexity of the design count. The Tangaliya Shawl has received the GI Tag (Geographical indication) from the Indian government and remains a beautiful testament to India’s rich textile heritage.
